Class #1: City Manager/City Council/City Clerk

- By City Charter, Lebanon operates with a City Council/City Manager form of Government. What does that mean? What are the functions of the City Council vs. that of the City Manager?
- Learn about the history of the municipal clerk profession (you will see and touch the original Town Charter of 1761), the election process and other functions of the City Clerk’s Office.
Class #2: Boards, Committees & Commissions, Permitting & Development Review

- Learn the roles of the City’s many important Boards, Commissions, and Committees. Each one serves a certain purpose to a well-functioning municipality and the members are all resident volunteers.

- Learn the purpose of the Master Plan and how it guides the community toward the same long-term goal.
- What is the City’s Work Plan? How does it comport with the Master Plan?
- What is a Capital Improvements Plan? How does it fit into the City’s budget? How is the budget formulated and what components does it contain?

- Lebanon’s library system is a gateway to web and digital resources of all kinds. Find out what’s new at the library, and also about services we have traditionally provided that you might not be aware of. We’ll highlight some of the more typical challenges we have faced (what is THAT book doing on the shelf at the library?) to community discussions.
- To recreate is to “bring fresh life to.” We need it daily, and so do our relationships with one another. This session with Paul Coats, Director of Lebanon Recreation and Parks, will get you on your feet, experiencing the joy of connecting with one another through recreation. We will take an overview look at the WHY and some of the HOW recreation is so successful in Lebanon.

This hands-on interactive session will provide an overview of the different types, most common causes of, and the methods the Lebanon Fire Department utilizes to extinguish fire. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice putting out a fire with a handheld fire extinguisher.

Learn how an unlined landfill gets reclaimed and what the land can be used for in the future. Get a peak at what’s being done to deal with the necessary sulfur smell that is a result of a lined landfill.
