[ARCHIVED] Pledge to Refill NOT Landfill in April

Refill Not Landfill Campaign underway. Take the pledge today!

Take the Pledge

During the month of April, the Lebanon Solid Waste Division, in cooperation with the Hanover Consumer Cooperative (COOP), is asking everyone to make the pledge to reduce waste. As an added incentive, the COOP will be awarding reusable/refillable prize packages to randomly selected participants who make the commitment to Refill NOT Landfill.

The online pledge form is now available and winners will be announced each week. Take a look at the generous prizes being offered and find out how you can participate by visiting LebanonNH.gov/Refill

Why is this important?

  • The Lebanon Landfill has a permitted disposal capacity of another 10 years and the City is concerned about preserving this capacity for future residents.
  • Upper Valley residents dispose of an estimated 300 tons of disposable coffee cups and plastic water bottles annually. This waste uses natural resources and consumes landfill disposal capacity.
  • Using refillable containers like travel mugs and water bottles has the potential of reducing waste that would normally be disposed in the Lebanon Landfill thus extending the life of our landfill.
  • Although plastic bottle recycling is available at the Lebanon Recycling Center only about 30% of plastic bottles are recycled and no viable recycling option exists for disposable coffee cups.

The Refill NOT Landfill Proclamation

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021,  Lebanon Mayor Tim McNamara will read a proclamation designating April as “Refill NOT Landfill” month. The City of Lebanon encourages residents to use refillable travel mugs and water bottles to reduce waste that would ultimately be disposed in the Lebanon landfill. Please help us extend the life of our landfill for future Lebanon residents.
