[ARCHIVED] The Promise That We Will Never Forget

09-11-2021 Remembrance Ceremony with Flag

Saturday, September 11th, 2021 marked the 20th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. Lebanon Fire Department, together with members of the Lebanon Permanent Firefighters Association past and present, held a remembrance ceremony to honor all first responders who gave their lives in sacrifice on that tragic day.

The somber day included speeches from Fire Chief Chris Christopoulos, a prayer of reflection by Department Chaplin Father Charles, and the emotional task of reading all 413 names of the brave men and women from the NYPD, NY Port Authority, private EMS responders, and of course the 343 members of FDNY.

With help from members of the Lebanon Police Department and Hartford Fire Department, every minute and thirty seconds a solitary name, age, and company assigned was recited along with the ringing of the bell to signify their final shift and call home to quarters one last time. Starting early morning and lasting until after sundown, the 12-hour ceremony culminated with the illuminations of two dual spotlights atop Lebanon Fire Station # 1. A remembrance for the towers and the promise that we will Never Forget.
