The Lebanon City Council voted on November 1, 2017 to establish a Cemetery Governance Task Force. Concerns continue to be raised about the physical upkeep of Lebanon’s cemeteries, with emphasis on the monuments. Based on the legal opinion provided to the City Council in the October 4, 2017, meeting agenda packet, Lebanon has options to consider in order to change the current course of maintenance, perpetual care and the ability to address the issues with broken monuments. These options include, but are not limited to considering amending City Code to include a Cemetery Board of Trustees.
The Task Force will be composed of:
- 2 City Councilors
- 2 residents of Lebanon
- 1 member of the Lebanon Historical Society
- 1 member of the Heritage Commission
- 1 representative of a Lebanon funeral home
- 1 member of the local American Legion Post
Lebanon’s Mayor will be making the appointments to the Task Force on or before November 15, 2017. Each group listed will be contacted and requested to bring forward an interested representative to participate. The 2 seats to be filled by Lebanon residents are open for consideration. If you are a Lebanon resident and interested in participating, please contact Sue Prentiss, Mayor by email on or before November 8, 2017, at simonprentiss1@gmail.com or Tina Stearns at Tina.Stearns@lebcity.com
Thank you for your interest!
