As a reminder, dog licenses were due as of April 30, 2018. If you received a courtesy reminder notice in May, this indicates that your dog was not licensed in April.
As long as your dog is licensed by May 31, 2018, you will not pay additional fines and late fees. Please remember, our office cannot issue licenses for dogs with expired rabies vaccinations. (Per NH Law 466:1-a) Therefore, it is important to verify that your dog's vaccination is current so you can still license during the May grace period. Rabies information is printed at the bottom of your reminder letter. You can also call our office to verify the information.
Dogs can be licensed in-person, through the mail or online. (Additional fees are collected for all online transactions.)
It is important to know that beginning on June 1st, each dog which remains unlicensed will be assessed with the following fees, in addition to the standard licensing fees:
- $25.00 Civil Forfeiture Fine, assessed per dog.
- $1.00 Late Fee, assessed per dog; this fee is accumulative and increases by $1 for each month the dog remains unlicensed, beginning on June 1st.
- $7.00 Service Fee**
** Beginning this year, the civil forfeiture notices will now be sent by certified mail, which means an additional $7.00 service fee will be collected at the time of licensing, in accordance with NH Laws 466:13 and 466:14.
To illustrate how quickly these fees can accumulate, an altered dog only costs $7.50 if licensed by May 31, 2018. However, beginning on June 1st, that same dog will cost $40.50 to license. It is very important to license on time to avoid paying these fees, because once assessed, we cannot waive them.
