1. What are the hours of operation at the Lebanon Solid Waste Facility?

The Lebanon Solid Waste Facility hours of operation are:

Monday - Friday
8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Scales shut down at 4 p.m.

Saturdays
8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Scales shut down at 1 p.m.

The Solid Waste Facility is always closed on: 

• Sundays 
• New Year's Day
• Memorial Day 
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving
• Christmas

2. Where can I recycle and dispose of waste in Lebanon?

You can drop off items at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility.

3. Where can I safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs?

The Lebanon Police Department has a Pharmaceutical Drop Box installed in their lobby. It’s available 24 hours a day for you to turn in old, unused or discarded pharmaceutical prescriptions. For more information please visit the Pharmaceutical Drop Box page.

4. Where can I get landfill punch cards?

Punch cards are NOT available for purchase at the Solid Waste Facility. They may be purchased in person at Lebanon City Hall or at one of the following local vendor locations: 

• Lavalley’s Building Supply
• West Lebanon Feed and Supply
• Jake’s Market (Lebanon location)

5. How do I establish a commercial account?

All commercial haulers must register with the Solid Waste Facility attendant. To establish a commercial account with the Lebanon Solid Waste facility, please visit our Businesses and Haulers information page.

6. Which items can be disposed and how much will it cost?

7. Where can I dispose of or recycle my computer?

In New Hampshire, all computer monitors, laptops and televisions are banned from disposal in landfills and incinerators. The Lebanon Recycling Center will accept these items for a fee. Best Buy and Staples will also accept these items at no cost or a small fee depending on the size of the item. Best Buy or Staples should be contacted for up-to-date information. 8. Which plastics are accepted for recycling?

All containers with numbers 1 through 7 are now being accepted at the Lebanon Recycling Facility. This means that beyond your bottles (caps removed of course) and beyond your laundry soap containers (rinsed, rinsed, and rinsed some more) you can now recycle materials such as yogurt cups, butter and margarine tubs, and deli containers. 9. What do I do with the grocery bags from the supermarkets?

These bags will be accepted by the supermarket where you bought your groceries. Look for a special container when you enter the store to recycle these bags. More importantly, re-use the bags or purchase the larger reusable heavy duty bags the stores now sell for a small fee to help reduce the use of the older, one-use plastic bags.

10. How do I submit a complaint about landfill odor?

If you notice an odor coming from the Solid Waste Facility, please report it using our Odor Complaint form located on the Solid Waste Facility Odor Complaints web page.

11. Why are there odors coming from the landfill area?

The odor is the hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell) gas that has been generated through the interaction of moisture with a major component of sheetrock (gypsum). The landfill has accepted ground construction and demolition (c&d) waste from the Town of Hartford through a mutual project since the mid 1990's, where Hartford accepts c&d waste from the surrounding VT and NH towns, has it ground into small pieces and hauls it to the Lebanon Landfill for use as alternate daily cover on the incoming waste.

12. What is Lebanon's tip fee for landfill disposal and can I use cash or a debit/credit card?

Lebanon's tip fee for landfill disposal is $75.00 per ton. There are separate fees for different items such as refrigerators, mattresses, furniture, etc. Please refer to the landfill website for a list of the various fees. Cash/Credit/Debit is NOT accepted at the landfill. Payment must be made through the use of a "punch card" or through a pre-approved account for commercial users. 13. Can plastic toys, pails, swimming pools, etc., be recycled?

No, these items can not be recycled at the Lebanon Recycling Center. The recycling markets for these items is not stable. Please dispose of plastic toys, pails and swimming pools appropriately. 

14. Does the Lebanon Recycling Center accept textiles?

The Lebanon Recycling Center is holding a 3-month trial period for textile recycling. The collection will be inside the front door of the recycling center on the right.

15. I see crows and other birds when I visit the landfill. Are there other types of birds and wildlife in the area?

The landfill is a great place for bird watching! We have a family of six bald eagles that live nearby and visit us almost daily, a large number and variety of hawks that feed on mice, voles and other animals that live in the closed areas of the landfill. A beaver along the Connecticut River and feral cats that live under a small shelter we have built, are at the site too. The cats are trapped tagged, neutered and released courtesy of the USDA bird and animal control person at the landfill.

16. What are prohibited wastes?

The following cannot be placed in the Lebanon Landfill for disposal: 

• Computer Monitors and Televisions 
• Hazardous waste 
• Large metal appliances 
• Mercury containing devices such as thermostats and thermometers 
• Tires

17. Does the facility take sludge?

The Lebanon Landfill takes sludge from the wastewater treatment facilities.
