2. What is the process of purchasing a cemetery lot?

To purchase a cemetery lot, please contact the Public Works Department at 603-448-3112 to set up an appointment to view available lots. Once a selection has been made you may purchase the lot and a deed will be issued. Checks can be made payable to: City of Lebanon.

3. What is the cost of a conventional grave?

Charge of lots. The following prices are established as the purchase prices for cemetery lots and for required contributions to the Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund. (Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund payment is 50% of a grave lot cost): [City Code, Chapter 46, Cemeteries, Effective 6-1-2022 by Ord. No. 2021-16]

(1) Each full grave (with permanent outside container): *Resident - $700 (Grave lot cost is $350; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $350); Non-resident - $1400 (Grave lot cost is $700; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $700) 

(2) Each infant grave: *Resident - $300 (Grave lot cost is $150; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $150) (applies to Glenwood and Valley Cemeteries only in the areas specifically laid out for infant burials); Non-resident - $600 (Grave lot cost is $300; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $300)  

(3) Each cremation grave (in-ground or columbarium): Resident - $300 (Grave lot cost is $150; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $125) (applies only in the cemetery areas specifically laid out for cremation burials); Non-resident - $600 (Grave lot cost is $300; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $300)   

(4) Cremations. In the case of cremation interment, the following provisions shall apply:

(a) Minimum purchase is one grave space. Maximum number of cremation-type interments shall be six (6) per grave space (except in the case of combining full and cremation burials in which only one full burial and five cremation burials per grave will be allowed).

(b) For Columbarium Niche interment, minimum purchase is one niche space. Maximum number of interments is two (2) per niche.

*Documentation to show residency may include a most recent tax bill, vehicle registration, driver’s license (must include a physical address), non-driver/state-issued photo identification card, utility bill, signed lease agreement, or other evidence deemed adequate by the Cemetery Sexton.

4. How many burials are allowed in a single, conventional grave?

There can be one full burial and five cremations, or six cremations in a single, conventional grave.

5. What is a Natural Burial?

“Natural” or “Green” burial promotes the decomposition of the body with minimal impact to the environment. The deceased are buried without the use of embalming fluids, permanent outside containers, or modern caskets.

6. Where are the permitted locations for a natural burial?

Natural burials are permitted in Old Pine Tree Cemetery and in Section “F” of the West Lebanon Cemetery.

7. How many burials are allowed in a natural grave?

There can be one full burial in a natural grave.

8. What is the cost of a natural burial?

The cost for a natural burial is a combination of the purchase of a lot (which includes the required contribution to the Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund) plus the cost of a burial. [City Code, Chapter 46, Cemeteries, Effective 6-1-2022 by Ord. No. 2021-16]

(1) Each full natural burial lot (*resident): $1050 (Grave lot cost is $525; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund is $525). Each full natural burial lot (non-resident): $2100 (Grave lot cost is $1050; Cemetery Maintenance Special Revenue Fund $1050).

*Documentation to show residency may include a most recent tax bill, vehicle registration, driver’s license (must include a physical address), non-driver/state-issued photo identification card, utility bill, signed lease agreement, or other evidence deemed adequate by the Cemetery Sexton.

(2) Each natural burial: $500 (weekday during operating business hours); $500 plus $100 per hour after operating business hours; $750 weekend; $875 holiday (as permitted)

9. What are the rules and regulations pertaining to cemeteries in the City of Lebanon?

10. Do I have to pick up my dog’s dog waste?

Yes. Dog waste should be placed in a proper trash receptacle. Never throw dog waste into the stormwater grates in the street. For more information, please review our Rules about Pet Waste page.
