Property Description

Indian Ridge comprises 237 acres with 2.4 miles of trail.

History & Features

The approximately 237 acres of conserved land is part of a larger parcel currently owned by Dartmouth College. The area's affiliation with Dartmouth College dates to approximately 1771 when large tracts of land were granted to Joseph Tilden, as well as Doctor Ebenezeer Wheelock, President of Dartmouth College. This area of Lebanon was known as Dresden. The conservation easement for this property was generated as part of an agreement between Dartmouth College and the Town of Hanover.

The trails on this property connect to the DHMC trail system, the Boston Lot trail system, as well as to the Sachem Village neighborhood. The views from the ridge include various Vermont peaks, as well as Dartmouth’s Baker Tower. The main trail follows a ridgeline with exposed bedrock in the highest elevations, and with wetland ecosystems in the low areas. Mountain biking is restricted on the Indian Ridge trail.  

Access

There are two trail heads at the northern end of this property, one located along the powerline on the edge of the Sachem Village neighborhood, and the other located off of Gile Drive, including a parking area.  The Water Tower access south of DHMC, and the Boston Lot trail network are other access options.
