Upper Valley Running Club Award Submission Form

  1. Eligibility

    1) The student-runner shall be a resident of the Upper Valley -  attending a public or private school* in: Lebanon, Hanover, Mascoma, Enfield, Claremont, Springfield, NH; Woodstock, Windsor, White River Junction (Hartford schools), Thetford, Sharon. Including KUA, Sharon Academy, Thetford Academy, etc. as long as student-runners are permanent Upper Valley residents and run for an eligible high school in the Upper Valley.

    2)  The student-runner must provide proof of acceptance at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or technical training institute. The student award may be in the form of a proprietary credit or another form of payment to be used as the awardee determines.   

    3)  The student-runner must have participated in a secondary school’s cross country running and/or track running program for at least one year prior to their application.  Varsity level participation is not required.

    4)  The student-runner provides a Letter of Reference from their running coach.

    5)  The student-runner has maintained a B average or higher on school transcript.

    6)  The student-runner shows qualities of good citizenship.

    7)  The student-runner submits an essay. (Essay Requirements noted below).

  2. Submission Timeline:

    Completed submissions and transcripts must be received by June 1, 2022.

    Submissions must be received digitally or post-marked by June 1, 2022.

    Selections will be made by the UVRC Student Awards Committee.

    Note: Recipient(s) of the awards will be notified by June 7, 2022. All applicants will be contacted regarding the status of their submissions.

  3. (1) What has your running experience meant to you?

    (2) Tell us about your time on the track or XC team.  Were their personal highs, lows, records, or significant events you can share?

    (3) Give an example of a mentor or someone who has guided you in your life (coach, teacher, employer, family member, etc.). How has your mentor inspired you in terms of training, sportsmanship, etc.?

    (4) What are your education plans and/or career goals?

    (5) What role will running play in your life over the next 5 years?

    (6) What are the challenges you have faced preparing for meets, improving times, etc.? How did you work to improve?

    (7) Has the discipline from your training and meeting challenges helped you in other aspects of your life? Give examples.

    (8) What are your other interests? Is it difficult to balance team sports, studies, family and friends?

    (9) What advice would you give to a new runner?
