Property Description

Two Rivers Conservation Area comprises 24 acres with trails.

History

This Parcel’s earlier use as a sand/gravel pit and construction dump belie natural community on the rebound. It was acquired by Upper Valley Land Trust in 1989 and transferred to the City of Lebanon in 1990. Trails provide access to both the Connecticut and Mascoma Rivers, including their confluence.  The functioning floodplain forest contains species such as basswood, aspen, and white oak, as well as the recent plantings of elm trees with assistance from the Nature Conservancy.  Wildlife on this property includes mink, fox, beaver, and deer.  The property is permanently protected under a conservation easement held by the UVLT.

Access

The property is located immediately to the north of the span of Interstate 89 that crosses over the Connecticut River and into Vermont.  The eastern boundary is shared with the Upper Valley Plaza development, with trail access located directly behind the buildings, including a trail that meanders into the Bird Chirp meadow, as well as a trailhead marked by a property kiosk.
